I seek to understand how and why traits vary within a species, and to use that understanding to address real world problems like food production and species conservation. I integrate approaches from the fields of ecology, physiology, genetics, and evolutionary biology, and I work in the field, the greenhouse, the lab, and on high-performing computer clusters. I also enjoy science fiction, free-style botanizing, and hiking.

This memorial website was created in the memory of our daughter, McKayla Aukes who was born on October 08, 1997 and passed away on May 21, 2007 at the age of 9. She will remain in our hearts forever.
